The Tamagotchi Color was released on 22nd November 2008 as a Japanese exclusive. It was the first Tamagotchi to have a coloured LCD screen. The Tamagotchi Color was only released in Japan and in Japanese language.
The Tamagotchi Color has a larger shell compared to the previous Tamagotchi releases. Eleven different designs were released - White, Black, Pink, Magenta, Green, Blue, and Orange. The second wave of designs were released March 20, 2009, and include Yellow, Navy, Green + White, and Cream + Pink.
This was the first Tamagotchi to include a weather system. At different times of the year, the weather will change when you go outside into your garden ect. If the weather get's too bad you will be forced to stay in your house until it clear's up. This features has become a regular feature on all Coloured screened tamagotchi's.

The Tamagotchi Color happy bar can be extended by finding 7 special items. I have included a written list of how to obtain all of these following items:
1. Rainbow Watering Can = By using the rainbow watering can, on a day when the sky is filled with puffy clouds you can extend the happy bar. To obtain the watering can, you must win a lottery ticket which you can get from purchasing items from TamaDepa.
2. Shooting Star = By using the telescope on a clear night (you might need to repeat this several times)
3. Four-leaf Clover = Using the magnifying glass, just after planting a seed on a day with puffy clouds (you might need to repeat this several times)
4. Eating an Ice-pop = Eat ice-candy on-a-stick. The ice-lolly is bought from the shop. (you might need to repeat this several times)
5. Tea = Drinking Japanese tea. You can buy the tea from the shop. (you might need to repeat this several times)
6. Heart-shaped Cloud = In the sky on a day with puffy clouds (you might need to repeat this several times)
7. Hapihapi = Eat a candy heart from the hapihapi tree (you can get hapihapi seeds by going to the connection icon (the 5th icon at the top) and then press the second option. Then enter the code: 84328 41937 and you will receive a hapihapi seed. Plant the seed and wait for it to grow. After it grows you will get a heart shaped fruit. Eat the fruit and you will receive a visit from Hapihapichi).

The Instructions below are for the Tamagotchi Plus, very similar to Tamagotchi Connection and were provided by Bandai in their Japanese 3 Feb 2004 press release.

All functions above are controlled from the three buttons below the screen.The 'left' button is called 'A', the 'middle' button is called 'B' and the 'right' button is called 'C'.

'A' lets you scroll clockwise thru icons at the bottom of the screen to select a function.

'B' is used to select a function once you highlight it with 'A'. It also scrolls through the informationin each function and is used to set the time and date.

'C' is used to return to the main screen from within a function or to unselect all functions in the main screen.

The 'skull icon' means your Tamagotchi is ill and needs at least one dose of medicine.

You can connect your Tamagotchi Connection to another one (if they are both old enough) by using the 'A' button to select the 'heart' icon in the top right corner of the screen. Point the keychain end of each Tamagotchi at each other, then press the 'B' button twice. When you get them connected,they will automatically play games with each other, or visit and leave presents.

Be sure to turn out the light when your Tamagotchi sleeps at night, he will automaticallyturn it on when he wakes up.

Up to fifty friends can be stored along with the level of friendship: aquaintance, buddy, friend,good friend, best friend, true partner (indicated by the number of smiley faces).

TamagotchiSquare offers some tips from translations of two Japanese books providing hintsfor raising Tamagotchi Plus (the Japanese version of Tamagotchi Connection).

The books are Bandai's Tamaplus Raising Guide (Japanese title is 'Kaettekita TamagotchiPlus Suku Suku Sodatekata Guide') and the Bandai Playing Book (Kaettekita! Tamagotchi to Asobu Hon').

Tamagotchi Plus has meters for Hunger, Happiness and Discipline. The books speculatethere are three other variables of importance (Luck Level, Body Needs, and Heart/Spirit).

Luck Level ranges from one to five. If Tamagotchi's Luck level is high, they will beoffered more disciplined (higher discipline level) parters in arranged marriages. Luck Levelis fixed at birth and never changes, but marrying a higher Luck Level partner increasingLuck Level of the resulting offspring.

Body Needs are food, health and discipline.
